DESCRIPTION:
Salisbury Christian School is seeking qualified and experienced coaches with strong Christian faith for Middle School and High School teams. Practices are held after school, typically 5 days per week (specific times vary). Responsibilities include practice plans, skill development, game preparation, communication with student-athletes and their parents, and spiritual mentorship. Individuals with playing experience, coaching experience, and desire to work in a Christian environment and impact students' lives are encouraged to apply for potential coaching openings for fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons!
JOB PURPOSE:
Quality coaching is important to the success of teams and the development of student-athletes at Salisbury Christian School. Coaches should be knowledgeable in their respective areas and should have experience playing and/or coaching. Coaches are representatives of Salisbury Christian School and should conduct themselves professionally at all times. Coaches are expected to incorporate Biblical integration in practice and game plans and, therefore, must be of good moral standing and have evidence of Christian faith. Coaches should lead by example in the way they teach and instruct teams and student-athletes, teaching and encouraging student-athletes to grow in character and faith.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Help student-athletes learn attributes, skills, and athletic abilities that will continue their development as mature, able, and responsible Chrisitian athletes;
- Possess knowledge of proper techniques of the sport in which they coach;
- Conduct interest meetings during the sports season prior to the start of their season and report attendance to Director of Athletics;
- Read and review all guidelines, rules, and regulations for their sport, as issued by NFHS, MPSSAA, DIAA, and ESIAC;
- Report full rosters to Director of Athletics at the beginning of each season and ensure student-athletes have completed all necessary health forms and payments;
- Conduct regular inspections of the playing field, equipment, and facilities. Report necessary repairs, problems, or deficiencies to the Director of Athletics immediately;
- Develop practice schedules and communicate practice and game schedule to athletes, parents, and Director of Athletics at the start of the season;
- Develop and maintain rules and structure in keeping with the school’s mission and philosophy, this includes a student-athlete and parent contract;
- Adhere to expectations regarding practices and games, including, arrive at practice 15 minutes prior to start time;
- Supervise and ensure safety for student athletes on the roster during practices and games;
- Complete an accident form if involved in an accident;
- Assist with enlarging the vision and mission of Salisbury Christian School;
- Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling;
- Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ and assist them in making positive life choices;
- Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout all activities;
- Keep the Administration adequately informed of serious student issues;
- Recognize the need for good public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public;
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration;
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and Administration;
- Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned;
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth;
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school;
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Administration.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1-2 years of youth sports coaching experience preferred.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma;
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
