Salisbury Christian School is seeking reliable, careful, and experienced transportation staff. Qualified applicants should have experience driving large vehicles; CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement required (SCS will pay for necessary courses to obtain the proper endorsements, if needed). JOB PURPOSE: Bus drivers primarily provide transportation for students, faculty, and coaches to and from school, field trips, athletic competitions, and other events. School staff and parents may be transported for events and activities as well. Drivers are required to implement school policies and procedures while conducting their responsibilities as a bus driver. Drivers are responsible for passenger safety and maintaining a Christian atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Give full attention to the assigned group of students and/or other passengers and be responsible for their safety and well-being;
- Conduct a thorough bus inspection before and after each use, every day;
- Keep the bus clean;
- Drive the bus only when it is in safe mechanical condition and is properly equipped as required by law;
- Drive the bus in a safe manner as required by law;
- Notify the Director/Assistant Director of Facilities about any unsafe condition of the bus and/or any maintenance that may be necessary;
- Conduct required emergency drills, in collaboration with the Director/Assistant Director of Facilities;
- Follow established procedures in the event of mechanical difficulties, emergencies, or accidents;
- Complete an accident form if involved in an accident;
- Assist with enlarging the vision and mission of Salisbury Christian School;
- Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling;
- Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ and assist them in making positive life choices;
- Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout all activities;
- Keep the Administration adequately informed of serious student issues;
- Recognize the need for good public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public;
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration;
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and Administration;
- Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as deemed necessary by the school;
- Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned;
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth;
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school;
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Administration.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
-
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience with public or private bus transportation.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Must be at least 21 and have at least a Class B CDL with a passenger and school bus endorsement and authorized to work in the United States;
- Valid Maryland driver’s license with a good driving record and be insurable;
- High school diploma or GED and at least 2-3 years of a verifiable employment history with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written for the purpose of public interaction and report writing;
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are performed on a school bus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noise levels; fumes or airborne particles; noxious odors; vibrations from driving a bus; and traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb; bend, stoop, and kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures. This includes the pushing/pulling of up to 50 pounds. In addition, the employee must have the ability to use emergency exits at any location on the bus. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
